USPSA will be providing one full scholarship to the 2005 Junior Camp at Camp Shootout, being hosted by "Bang Inc" (Kay and Jerry Miculek) in Princeton, LA. This camp will be held June 21-25, 2005 and details may be found at www.bang-inc.com.
As Area 7 Director, it is my responsibility to select the recipient of this scholarship.
If there are two qualified applicants, I may elect to offer two 50% scholarships towards the $800 camp (USPSA would pay $400, and the participant woul pay the remainder). Food and lodging is provided, however, airfare to the camp, equipment and ammunition are the responsibility of the participant. If the junior attending the camp is from a state which does not permit minors to posses firearms and/or ammunition, you can ship this equipment to Bang-Inc, which is an FFL licensed facility.
Each applicant must submit a written application via postal mail stating their interest, and that they plan to attend if accepted.
This application is due at my post office box, or in person, on April 15, 2005. Please note this is the date by which the application must be received, not the postmark date. I will inform
I will acknowledge each application via US mail within 5 days of receipt. If you do not receive a confirmation from me in a reasonable period of time, please contact me. Do not assume your application has been received and has official status until you receive a letter from me via US Mail.
Please include the following information:
Junior name, USPSA member number
Junior's age and the school grade (s)he will enter in the Fall of 2005.
How long the Junior has been a resident of Area 7.
Brief summary of shooting experience. Be sure to include RO work as well as match participation.
Indicate if you would accept a 50% scholarship if offered.
Your statement that you understand if is your responsibility to pay for airfare, supply ammo and arrange transportation of the firearm/ammo if necessary.
- Your statement that the Area 7 Director and USPSA has permission to announce the recipient's name in Front Sight magazine and on various USPSA related web sites.
If you are offered a scholarship, you must confirm the arrangements with Bang-Inc by May 9, 2005. If the offer is for a partial scholarship, you must have payment for the $400 50% to the Clark's by that date. If it's a 100% scholarship, you must have confirmed arrangement with the Clark's by that date.
This deadline to confirm registration is necessary to allow the scholarship to be awarded to an alternate in the event the Junior who is offered a slot is unable to accept. If that happens, I need to be able to contact alternates while there is still time to get advance purchase deals on airline tickets.
If there is no qualified applicant from Area 7 who is interested in the scholarship, it will be given to another area director to aware to to a qualified junior.
April 15, 2005 - Applications must be received by the Area 7 Director (that's me)
April 23, 2005 - Deadline for the Area 7 Director to announce the decision
May 9, 2005 - Deadline by which Junior must confirm registration with the Clarks and pay the 50% ($400) if offered a 50% scholarship.
I have provided these guidelines so that members may know what to expect in the administration of the scholarship program. I reserve the right to deviate from strict interpretation of these guidelines if a situation arises which these policies do not anticipate.
In the interest of fairness to all applicants within Area 7, however, it is my intention to strictly enforce the April 15 deadline.
